For the second time, Greenfield City Council positions will be elected based on districts, rather than at large, as voters in November will choose a councilmember for District 3.

District 1 Councilmember Belen Leon Garcia, a retired educator, was elected to fill a vacancy for a partial two-year term in 2024, securing more than 50 percent of the vote over Stephanie Garcia, a litigation paralegal.

Garcia is now running unopposed for a full four-year term.

“In 2024, [voters] trusted me with the honor of representing District 1 and I’ve embraced that responsibility wholeheartedly,” Garcia said in her candidate statement. “I’m running for four more years to continue supporting our youth, families and seniors while keeping the City of Greenfield a safe, healthy and welcoming home sweet hometown.”

In District 3, voters will choose between two candidates: incumbent Rachel Ortiz, who has been serving as councilmember since 2022, and David Hernandez Godoy, a maintenance supervisor.

“While we have made important progress there is still more work to do,” Ortiz said in her candidate statement. “My priority is establishing a Family Resource Center for all members of our community and the appearance of our city so that Greenfield continues to attract new businesses and create economic opportunities.”

Godoy has not filed a candidate statement or replied to Salinas Valley Now for comment.

In addition to the two open council seats, Mayor Bob White is running unopposed for another term.
