Everyone’s Harvest, one of the local companies dedicated to operating farmer’s markets and community food programs at a local level, was recognized as one of the state’s non-profits of the year.
California Assembly Speaker Robert Rivas selected and recognized Everyone’s Harvest as one of the 2026 non-profits of the year. Rivas’ office acclaimed them during a ceremony and lunch that took place in Sacramento on May 20, said Hester Parker, the company’s Executive Director.
The California Association of Nonprofits also chose Everyone’s Harvest for their dedication and work.
“Each year, California Assemblymembers and State Senators are invited to honor a California Nonprofit of the Year for their district. It’s a way for nonprofit honorees to strengthen their relationships with legislators, and vice versa,” according to the Cal Nonprofits website. “As policy advocates, we know that when legislators know nonprofits in their district, they listen more carefully to what nonprofits and the communities they represent need.”
Parker and other members of Everyone’s Harvest managed to attend the festive Sacramento event. Because Rivas, who was busy working on the state budget could not attend the event fully, he was still able to stop by, Parker said.
“We had a nice little talk. He was very gracious, Parker said on Tuesday, June 9.
Though Everyone’s Harvest has had some challenges this year like having to conclude programs like Farms Together, which offered free produce boxes to low-income residents as part of the Farms Together initiative (which received federal funding), Parker said she was excited by new programs and continuing the local markets and healthy cooking classes.
“We are searching for other ways that we can continue to provide with Fresh, affordable produce for Monterey County residents,” Parker said.
