Salinas Police

After a brief lull following a surge in gun violence in January, two Salinas men have been murdered in the past week.

A 37-year-old died last night after being shot multiple times last night in Salinas.

Salinas police officers responded to a report of shots fired and arrived at 1022 Del Monte Ave. just before 8pm last night. They found Francisco Solorio lying in the parking lot, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was brought to Natividad Medical Center, the county trauma center, for treatment; he died there at about 3am.

Witnesses told police two men walked up to Solorio and asked about his gang affiliation. Solorio reportedly told the men he was affiliated with the Sureños. One of the suspects then pulled out a handgun and shot him multiple times.

The gunman was described as a young, short man wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt and blue jeans. The other suspect is approximately 20 years old, 5-foot-10 and was wearing a black ball cap, black hooded sweatshirt and black pants.

A 21-year-old man, Eric Jacobo, was shot and killed Saturday night shortly after 8pm. Salinas police responded to reports of a shooting, and found Jacobo suffering from multiple gunshot wounds at 1036 N. Sanborn Road.

Officers attempted CPR, but Jacobo died at the scene.

Another victim of a shooting this week is expected to survive. On Monday night Feb. 9, a 20-year-old man was walking on the 1100 block of Green Street when a suspect began to fire at him from across the street, hitting him once. The suspect then fled on foot toward Del Monte Avenue.
