Sand City’s new and beloved cornhole league is back for its fall season, with games starting at 6pm on Thursday, Oct. 7. Afterwards, the league will play most Thursdays until the Championship on Dec. 11.
As with the summer season, the league had to cap registration after the maximum number of teams was reached. Many of those teams boast goofy, corny names, like “Dads Just Throwing Things Out There!” and “Toss Corn & Carry On.” So while you can’t sign up to play anymore (unless you’re one of those dads just throwing things out there, of course), you can always join in as a spectator.
Aaron Palmer, who played during the summer season, describes it as a “fun, familial vibe.” Typically four or five games happen at a time while the rest of the players and their fans mill around listening to music, drinking beer from Post No Bills across the street or snacking on tacos from the conveniently posted taco truck. “It’s just really fun and laid back,” Palmer says. “It kind of feels like you’re in your backyard.” Plus, in contrast to more competitive recreational sports leagues like soccer or softball, cornhole is just, well… cornhole. “It’s just wacky,” Palmer says.
Name a better way to spend a random Thursday night – we’ll wait. To see the registered teams and game schedule, visit sandcity.org/our-community/cornhole-league. [TCL]
