Monterey Bay F.C. is preparing for Saturday’s match against Tampa Bay without a head coach.

On Wednesday morning, July 31, the club announced that management “parted ways” with Frank Yallop, who has been head coach and sporting director since the team’s inaugural season in 2022. In two-and-a-half years at the helm, Yallop’s squad tallied a 33-44-18 record, falling short of the playoffs each season.

MBFC management expects to name a new head coach on Monday, Aug. 5. The interim head coach will be announced on Thursday morning, a team official says.

Yallop was a standout with Ipswich Town in England before turning to coaching. He led the San Jose Earthquakes to MLS Cup championships in 2001 and 2003. He has coached USL squads since 2016.

Along with Yallop, assistant coach Ramiro Corrales has also departed the team. A Salinas native, Corrales played under Yallop for the Earthquakes. He came to MBFC with Yallop.

The Union are 7-9-5 on the season, eighth place in the USL Championship’s Western Conference. Kick-off against Eastern Conference rivals Tampa Bay on Saturday at Cardinale Stadium is set for 7:30pm.
