As the sun set behind Colton Hall in Monterey, temperatures dropped, but the cold evening did not hinder the 7,800 people who gathered to hear Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders speak.
By 5pm, hundreds of people had gathered on the lawn. An hour later, that number rose to more than 7,000 by the time Sanders took the stage shortly after 7pm, the entry gates showed no signs of letting less people in.
Following Tuesday's speech, Sanders will make a campaign stop in Spreckels on Wednesday, as he and his Democratic rival Hillary Clinton—who spoke in Salinas last Wednesday—canvas California before the June 7 primary election.
