Erik Chalhoub here. As someone whose career has been defined by the word count, I know that 101 words may seem like a lot for a story, but once you start writing, it really isn’t.
Try to set a scene, and you’ve used up half of your quota already. Forget about sharing your characters’ hopes and dreams.
So, when you read the winners and runners-up for the Weekly’s 101-Word Short Story Contest in this week’s edition, I think you’ll be impressed by how much was packed into so little.
I’m out of words. And I was just starting, too.
