Exploring the underwater world through the lens of Kip Evans.

Could you live underwater for 17 days? Pam Marino here, answering that question with a resounding “no,” but I respect anyone who can.

Pebble Beach photographer Kip Evans did just that, as part of a team of “aquanauts” living underwater off the coast of Florida for a month in 2016. You can read more about Evans’ multiple ocean adventures and experiences in this week’s Face to Face feature by Editor Sara Rubin.

The story touches on how Evans got into underwater photography as a youth, his years with National Geographic, plus volunteering with an ocean search and rescue team that participated in recovering John Denver’s remains after the singer’s plane crashed off Point Pinos in Pacific Grove in 1997.

The interview is fascinating—my favorite part was where he revealed how he brings to life underwater subjects in his photos, which you can find out for yourself in Rubin’s story. I highly recommend giving it a read.
