State Controller John Chiang announced last week that salaries of over 250,000 University of California employees have been added to the state's publicpay.ca.gov transparency website, which since 2013 has also included salaries of state employees and employees of California State University.
"Transparency matters to parents, students and California taxpayers because it promotes accountability and fosters increased public participation," Chiang says in the statement.
Salary and benefit information is now available on the site for a total 608,900 employees, who were paid more than $29 billion in wages for 2013.
CSUMB President Edward Ochoa tops the list locally for university employees with $281,150 in total wages for 2013, greatly eclipsing the salaries of local state politicians. While no names are listed on the site (only titles), the average wages of state senators is about $82,000, and $87,000 for assemblymembers.
County salaries are also listed on the site for the fiscal year 2012, and the highest paid by far is Natividad Medical Center CEO Harry Weis, whose 2012 wages totaled $444,000.
Since publicpay.ca.gov was launched in 2010, the site now contains information on nearly 5.6 million positions and has registered more than 7.6 million page views.
