Salinas Police Line

Two men are dead in separate Salinas homicides that occurred five miles and four days apart.

Just after 7:20pm on Sept. 6, Salinas Police responded to a report of someone bleeding from a head wound. When officers arrived to the 100 block of Orchard Avenue, they found a man in his 20s suffering from blunt force trauma to his head.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene. The police had little to go on and were trying to confirm the identity of the victim in the days following.

Four days later, on Sunday Sept. 10, police responded to a call and found two men suffering from gunshot wounds on Bolivar Street near North Main Street at approximately 6:35pm, according to a police department written statement.

One man, 49-year-old Martin Rocha, was pronounced dead at the scene. A second man, who is not being named, was transported to a local hospital for treatment. Police say he was in serious condition.

The two deaths are the 23rd and 24th homicides of the year.
