The California Special Districts Association, which represents local agencies that deliver water, fire protection, waste management and other services throughout the state, awarded Assemblyman Mark Stone, D-Scotts Valley, as its 2016 "Legislator of the Year."
A statement from CSDA says that Stone has served with a "thoughtful and considerate voice," and that "his record on local issues has demonstrated his willingness to vote his conscience and support of local flexibility."
The award was given March 3 at the Monterey Regional Waste Management District facility in Marina, and Jeff Lindenthal, MRWMD's director of communications and sustainability, says Stone's honor is well-deserved.
"While the name may sound wonky, [CSDA] is a significant group of public agencies," Lindenthal says, "and [Stone] has been a tireless advocate for them at the state level."
