Seaside Traffic

Crews work along Fremont Boulevard at Kimball Avenue on Wednesday morning.

If at all possible, it's best to avoid driving into Seaside right now, as multiple road projects all happening at once have slowed major arteries to a crawl and created bottlenecks at key intersections.

Starting at 7am Aug. 1, contractors began tearing up parts of Fremont Boulevard—where Cal Am's Monterey Pipeline was recently installed—closing one lane on each side.

Work will continue on Fremont Blvd. from 7am-5pm through Aug. 3, and city staff recommend taking alternate routes.

That construction is in addition to the rebuilding of West Broadway Avenue, which is closed to eastbound traffic for another several months, after which the road will close to westbound traffic for six months and be completed in spring 2018.

Hilby Avenue has also been getting disrupted by pipeline construction, which is expected to be complete along the street in December. The parts of the street where the pipeline has already been sunk and paved over remain uneven and bumpy.

An Aug. 1 statement from Seaside officials stresses the road will not remain in that condition indefinitely, and that residents can expect "Hilby Ave. from Fremont to Yosemite to be smooth and black by the end of this year!"

UPDATE 8/2 5pm: Due to unexpected site conditions on Fremont, work will extend to 6:30pm this evening.
