PHOTOS: Women (and men) gather at Window on the Bay in solidarity in wake of the presidential election.

Approximately 150 people gathered at Window on the Bay in Monterey on the morning of Saturday, Nov. 9, to be in community and show solidarity after the loss of Vice President Kamala Harris to Donald Trump in the Nov. 5 presidential election. 

The crowd was made up of mostly women, but men came out as well to show support. There was wide variety of ages represented at the event organized by Esther Hobbs of Women's March Monterey Bay, from children to senior citizens.

Hobbs greeted the crowd, telling them this was an opportunity to not feel alone. 

"We will persist, resist and insist," she said, her fist in the air. "It's not over my friends, there is power in this moment and we're claiming it right now."

People made signs to hold up for passing vehicles on Del Monte Boulevard: "Keep fighting for freedom," "A woman's place is in the resistance," "Pussy grabs back," were just some of messages. Numerous people passing by in vehicles honked in support.

At another table there were beads to make friendship bracelets, a viral national movement that sprung up in the days following the election to show support for Harris.

Although there was a wide range in ages, there were just a handful of high school students. Alice Uchida, 16, and her friends from Salinas High School, drove to Monterey after basketball practice for the event.

"We want to make some noise for the youth, because what I'm looking at right now I don't see a lot of young girls, so we want to give some representation to our side," Uchida says.

"This is our right to protest and it's our civic duty to protest when we can," she says. "I feel like we should be here. We deserve to be here and bring attention to the cause."
