During a special meeting on Sept. 30, the Monterey Peninsula Unified School District appointed Gabe Sanders to replace Amanda Whitmire, who resigned in August and served in the board since 2018.
Sanders was the only candidate the board interviewed for this position, and he will serve for the remainder of Whitmire’s term, which ends in 2026.
Sanders has lived in District 6 for three years and brings a background in housing and community development on board.
He is a housing developer with Re:Vision West, a developer that focuses on affordable workforce housing on the Central Coast, and the executive director and founder of Monterey Opportunity Housing Trust, a nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving and creating more affordable housing.
Sanders has served on various boards including Monterey Parks and Recreation and Habitat for Humanity Monterey Bay.
