Flowers and a cross are attached to a power pole on Tuesday morning, May 16, in the 1300 Block of Garner Avenue in Salinas where 41-year-old Emilio Barrera and 28-year-old Antonio Ortega died the night before from gunshot wounds.

In the second gang-related event in three days, two men were shot and killed in the 1300 block of Garner Avenue in Salinas at about 8:25pm on Monday, May 15, Salinas Police reported.

Emilio Barrera, 41, and Antonio Ortega, 28, were found by police suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. They were pronounced dead at the scene.

Police are not offering any other details, other than that the shootings are being investigated as gang-related.

About a mile away on Paloma Avenue, a 23-year-old man was shot and killed around 10:30pm, Saturday, May 13, on the front porch of a home. Police have not released the victim's name.

The man does not have any history of being involved in gangs, but that shooting is also being investigated as gang-related, police said in a statement.

The shootings are the 16th, 17th, and 18th homicides in Salinas since the first of the year.
