In a lopsided 236 to 93 vote, controversial Alisal Union School District Trustee Meredith Ibarra was recalled from her seat in a special Sept. 9 election.
Estrella Theoni, a 20-year-old page at the Salinas City Library, was voted in to take her place.
The recall came after years of contentious board meetings in which Ibarra often clashed with other trustees to the point where all-out shouting matches brought meeting progress to a halt.
Ibarra was in her second term as trustee after being elected to the board in August 2009 in a recall election organized by a group of Alisal parents called the May 1 Alliance, which she helps lead. At the time, Salinas City Councilman Jose Castaneda was president of the board, and over the years he has remained a close ally of Ibarra's.
The move to recall Ibarra was brought by Juan Sandoval, an Alisal district employee.
