Almost 28,000 marijuana plants were confiscated from the Los Padres National Forest last week.
About 15 total personnel from the County of Monterey Marijuana Eradication Team (COMMET), with help from the U.S. Forest Service and Department of Fish and Wildlife, took out four large marijuana grow sites in the forest, according to the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office.
“It was a fairly young garden,” says Monterey County Sheriff’s Office Cmdr. John Thornburg. “Most of the plants were only six inches to a foot tall.
Using a Forest Service helicopter, the teams also took out over 1,500 pounds of trash and pot growing materials, including irrigation tubing, fertilizers, various poisons, and propane canisters.
“Someone spent some considerable amount of time to set it up, but we don’t know who,” says Thornburg.
