There are two active fires in Monterey County as of Sunday evening, Aug. 9, one in Big Sur and one in South County. Both now have evacuation warnings in place.
Late Sunday afternoon, a second fire, the Bryson Fire, began near Sapague Road in Bryson, west of San Antonio Reservoir, not far from the border with San Luis Obispo County.
An evacuation warning level 2 for zone MRY-G047 was issued just before 7pm. A warning means people in the area should get ready to leave at a moment's notice.
At about 5:30pm Cal Fire reported the fire was 13 acres. Firefighters were making good progress, with ground crews and air support working to secure control lines around the fire.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
