On March 12, Alisal Union School District's board of trustees unanimously appointed Monica Anzo as the district’s new superintendent after a three-month search.
Anzo, who has 25 years of experience in education, will take over from Superintendent Jim Koenig, who is retiring at the end of the school year. She’s currently AUSD’s deputy superintendent and has worked for the district since 1999, when she received her teaching credential from CSU Monterey Bay. Anzo has worked in different positions, including bilingual teacher, principal and deputy superintendent, a position she started in July 2024.
“The love I have for Alisal and the love that this room has for our district is in my heart at this moment,” Anzo said. “Mr. Koenig has set a foundation in the past five years that he’s been the superintendent and together we’re going to take it forward. I thank the board for the confidence and the trust, and I will take this confidence seriously.”
Anzo's three-year contract begins on July 1 with an annual salary of $263,000.
“Mrs. Anzo has pretty tough shoes to fill with the positive work that Mr. Koenig has done for the district,” Trustee Guadalupe Gilpas-Barrera said during the meeting.
