Salinas Police Department

A shooting at a busy time in a busy area of Salinas on Sunday, Dec. 22 left a teenager and a child injured; both are expected to recover from their injuries.

Salinas Police Cmdr. Brian Johnson says the teen was seated in the front passenger seat of a vehicle when a suspect fired through the window. The shooting victim is in stable condition. A child younger than 10 was in the back seat of the car and received minor injuries from broken glass debris.

Police found three spent casings at the scene, on the 600 block of Williams Road, in front of a shopping center just east of Bardin Road. The shooting took place at 7:51pm, when many of the businesses in the area—a McDonald's, Arco gas station and La Plaza Bakery—are often busy.

For that reason, Johnson says, police believe there may be multiple witnesses who can help them locate a suspect. As of Monday, police are canvassing the area to locate potential witnesses, and reviewing video and trying to locate additional video footage that may help them identify a suspect and a motive.
