Darlene Love's June 29 performance at Monterey's Golden State Theatre was an inspiring affair—the 1960s hit-maker had every last audience member either on their feet busting a move or on the edge of their seat, actively resisting the urge to boogie.
In between hits by everyone from Marvin Gaye to Roberta Flack, the 73-year-old singer delivered some life details—and Phil Spector stories—including the glorious moment she found out she was getting inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2011.
Love received a congratulatory phone call from Bruce Springsteen and ended up performing "Hound Dog" with him at the induction ceremony.
Ever since she was a part of the 2013 Oscar-winning documentary 20 Feet From Stardom, "glorious moments" have been much more plentiful, as has her workload. And at the top of the list: E-Street Band guitarist Steven Van Zandt's putting together Love's new record.
Van Zandt reportedly promised the album to Love 30 years back, but it sounds like it'll be worth the wait: The former Soprano castmember has enlisted everyone from Elvis Costello to The Boss himself to take part in the record.
"We're hoping to have an all-star album for Darlene, which she deserves," Van Zandt told Rolling Stone.
