"We're not trying to make music that everyone understands the first time they hear it," Ben Goldwasser told Rolling Stone back in January in reference MGMT's forthcoming record due out in June.
The synth-pop psychedelic duo—featuring Goldwasser and Andrew VanWyngarden—performed one of the new tracks that will be on the album, "Mystery Disease," last Friday at Penn State University. And even if the song is beyond comprehension after listening to it seven times, it's still enjoyable. A raucous cacophony of Irony Butterfly organ and fluttering futuristic laser beam effects are fueled by driving, rocket powered drum beats grinding alongside the frontmen's adolescent-like vocals.
Back on Record Store Day on April 20, MGMT released "Alien Days" on cassette—expect it to also appear on the new record.
