The Carmel destination Stationæry has been added to Michelin Guide’s list of restaurant recommendations in Monterey County. It joins 12 other establishments so honored.
Critics noted with approval Chef Amalia Scatena’s deft elevation of simple fare. “A potato pancake served with Korean braised short ribs and kimchi is an illustrative example, as is a photogenic take on avocado toast,” the guide reported.
Aubergine (two) and Chez Noir (one), both in Carmel, are the only restaurants awarded Michelin stars. Yafa—also Carmel—and Seaside’s Maligne carry Bib Gourmand recognition, as value for the money.
Other restaurants recommended by the guide are Carmel favorites La Bicyclette, Cultura, Akaoni and Casanova; Monterey destinations Coastal Kitchen, Sardine Factory and Montrio (listed under the old name Montrio Bistro), as well as Paprika Cafe; Lucia Restaurant & Bar represents Carmel Valley, while Gusto (Seaside) and Peppoli (Pebble Beach) round out the list.
There is still no evidence Michelin critics have ventured to Salinas.
