Pebble Beach Company has been around since United States lawmakers thought Prohibition was a good idea.

But its first-ever Pebble Beach Culinary Getaway had to wait nearly a century for its debut.

The highlights for a more flavorful and less controversial type of inaugural event include a five-course "Five Senses" dinner, a choice of cooking demos, lunch at Péppoli and more. It's a fully programmed weekend of indulgence and learn-by-doing, with lodging, for a cool…$2,600 a couple.

Temple Beth El Salinas (424-9151) has its epic kosher-style lunch and bake sale benefit Thursday, Feb. 2 (9am-6pm or until sold out) with added pick-up spots in Monterey for the classic pastrami or corned beef sandwich with coleslaw, dill pickle and cake ($13). 

• Another superlative pop-up from jeninni kitchen + wine bar (920-2662) features Rob Baker of Me and the Hound Memphis Barbecue Monday, Jan. 30, with pork slow smoked for 24 hours starring as part of the three-course dinner ($36++).

• Best recruitment ad of 2017 so far goes to Carmel Belle (624-1600: "What's up hustler?! We're looking for a few BAD ASS BALLERS to fill some part-time shifts at Carmel Belle. Experienced servers, baristas, juicers & people pleasers step to the front. If you think you're the s*** then send me your resume."

AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am approaches quickly, Feb. 9-12, with the biggest weekend for Peninsula restaurants all year.

• Over at Rio Grill (625-5436), its superlative 11:30am-3pm weekend brunch now features a range of juices to go with bottomless mimosas for $15.

• Reduce trash, boost your garden: Free composting workshops 10am Saturday, Jan. 28, at Monterey Regional Waste Management District, www.mrwmd.org.

Grasing's in Carmel does a paired wine dinner Friday, Jan. 27, with Miura owner and master sommelier Emmanuel Kemji ($145, 624-6562).

American Legion Post 41 in Monterey (375-9015) holds its annual crab feed Saturday, Jan. 28. The $50 sticker price looks like a deal ($25/12 and under) for salad, Old Fisherman's Grotto clam chowder, chilled-and-cracked Dungeness crab, dessert and coffee.

• Paging Sara Rubin: Boardwalk Sub Shop’s (264-1171) rotating sandwich of the week Jan. 26-Feb. 1 is pastrami reuben with steak and melted provolone, raw or fried onions and homemade pizza sauce ($11.49). BSS does a mean meatball-sausage-pepperoni calzone ($10.59) too. 

• On Thursday, Jan. 26, from 4:30-6:30pm Ratel Cider is having a tasting party at the Wharf Marketplace in Monterey (649-1116).

• The remodeling of Jacks Lounge at Portola Hotel (649-2698)—doubling the size of the bar and extending restaurant seating into the lobby—is on track to open in March in concert with the debut of the redone Monterey Conference Center.

Stone Brewing Co. only serves its new Tangerine Express IPA on Amtrak. Apparently Stone's founder loves riding rails in his native San Diego area.
