Grill at Lovers Point closed

The only difficulty Pacific Grove will have finding a new tenant for the city-owned property that until recently housed The Grill at Lovers Point will be sorting through the options.

Interest in the concession stand is high and, according to P.G. Finance Department’s James Minshew, there is already a list of potential tenants. However, officials are still working out the details before issuing a formal Request for Proposals.

There is no date set for the RFP, although the document could be posted within a few weeks. Minshew says the evaluation process is “pretty far along” and that the city is eager to see the property leased.

Once the RFP is made public, the city will accept bids until a specified date.

The Grill at Lovers Point was a longstanding hamburger and hot dog stand owned by Joe Cavallaro, who leased the space overlooking the beach on the basis of a flat fee plus a percentage of sales.

The diner’s lease had expired at the end of December. In the absence of a renewed lease agreement, The Grill was shuttered at the end of February.

Very sad this location has closed - right at Spring Break time and nicer weather. I hope whomever is selected will preserve the old-fashioned, small town beach feel - and be able to make as good of a burger at a value price. Let's get it open soon!
