In a year overstuffed with intrigue for Coastal Luxury Management, the news keeps coming.
This piece of good news: Bernabe de Luna has just been announced as wine director at Restaurant 1833, solidifying a strong core with new Executive Chef Jason Franey, who started Dec. 15.
A native of Zacatecas, Mexico, de Luna came to the U.S. in 1989, first working in agriculture and soon jumping to hospitality in 1991.
His industry exploits led him to Highlands Inn (now Hyatt Carmel Highlands), where he he rose from busboy to wine director for Pacific’s Edge Restaurant.
That meant he'd help ring-lead the world famous Masters of Food & Wine—which furnishes a little poetic symmetry because CLM first started with Pebble Beach Food & Wine after the departure of the Masters left an epicurean opportunity to sink their teeth into.
In 2005 he joined the celebrated team of Chef Michael Mina and wine guru Rajat Parr to help open and steer wine programs at the Stone Hill Tavern at the St. Regis Resort in Dana Point, STRIPSTEAK in Las Vegas, and RN74 in San Francisco.
Bernabe came back to Monterey County in 2010 to work for the Mirabel Restaurant & Hotel Group in Carmel, the David Fink-led operation behind Aubergine, Cantinetta Luca and 400 Degrees Gourmet Burgers & Fries.
