MYO Pure Frozen Yogurt opens its latest branch in Seaside's City Center today, March 11.

That is official word from new minority co-owner/managing partner Matthew Ford.

He wasn't sure when I poked in last night to observe what looked like the final touches taking place.

But they triumphed in one last inspection and his hopes to be flowing probiotic froyo tonight will be realized 6-10pm.

The final cannister in the colorful gauntlet of toppings was slipped into place by two teenage yogurt jockeys as we talked.

Now the wait is over.

Hours will be 11am-10pm Sunday-Thursday and 11am-11pm Friday-Saturday, though that will be up for evaluation given neighboring Buffalo Wild Wings stays open until midnight weekdays and until 2am on the weekends.

San Francisco business management grad Ford has managed MYO stores since the first one opened in…Walnut Creek?!

Given the strong local ties the stores enjoy, that comes as a surprise to me and many others.

But after they observed some success there—and thick froyo competition—the recentered their operation here and opened a shop on Cannery Row in 2009 (that has since shuttered).

Downtown Monterey's location came next and is still booming, then came Salinas' and now Seaside's, which is actually (and semi-secretly) the fourth outpost.

"We like the way everybody has accepted us in Monterey," Ford says.

Jamie Roth, one of the founders and former owners of family-owned feel-good MYO, likes the new spot's centrally-located position in a city with an improving food scene and within a business complex with several restaurants.

"We're really excited about where it is," she says, "mainly because it's a spot and a city where we haven't been before."

MYO's combination of probiotic yogurts, ample toppings, serve-yourself setup and bright color schemes have earned it the Weekly readers' vote for best frozen yogurt/ice cream in our annual Best of Monterey County poll several years in a row.

(In related news, we're currently compiling our 2015 Best Of issue, out April 2.)

Each of MYO's stores carry at least eight flavors at a time.

White vanilla, Dutch chocolate, pure tart (with no added sugar) and a dairy free flavor are always available. The others rotate regularly and have included exotic tastes like angel food cake, root-beer float, maple bacon donut and red velvet.

The 60-plus toppings include a fresh-fruit bar with locally sourced raspberries and kiwi; tubs of surprises like mochi balls and Thin Mint Girl Scout cookies; dispensers of candy, cereal and nuts; and a shelf of syrups.

Loyal locals know to tap into the 20-percent locals discount, tote along reusable yogurt dishes and a carry the frequent-buyer card.
