One day late Nashville guitar-guru-for-the-ages, Chester Burton Atkins, aka "Chet," aka Mr. Guitar, decided to honor the musicians he thought represented the very best guitarists in the world.
As Weekly contributor Paul Fried reports with a piece that publishes tomorrow at midnight, "Atkins created a fanciful designation called CGP (Certified Guitar Player) to describe an artist whom he felt personified the ultimate in skill."
On that list went mostly Nashville players: Paul Yandell, John Knowles, Steve Wariner, Jerry Reed.
But he also added a Australian named Tommy Emmanuel.
If anyone needed any evidence why, it appears here.
Emmanuel visits Carmel 8pm this Friday, Jan. 15, for a show at Sunset Center.
Tickets are $36 and $47. The acoustics should be just about ideal for his abilities.
Tickets and more at 620-2048 or www.sunsetcenter.org.
