It’s hard to keep up with new galleries that are always popping up in Monterey County. Today we are bringing to your attention three new galleries you may visit whenever you have a chance.
Nicole Cromwell is an artist based in Carmel. She opened Nicole Cromwell Gallery at Su Vecino Courtyard on Dolores Street (between 5th and 6th avenues, Carmel), in Joaquin Turner's former space in late June.
“My story is somewhat unique,” Cromwell shares. “After dedicating 25 years to critical care nursing, I decided to leave the bedside to pursue my passion for art full-time. This transition has been both challenging and deeply rewarding, and I believe it speaks to the broader themes of career transformation and the therapeutic power of creativity.”
Cromwell also teaches healing art classes to nurses and will soon be releasing her online beginner art course, all about the healing and health benefits of creativity for nurses with continuing education credits included.
At Nicole Cromwell Gallery, she creates contemporary abstract works, including soothing seascapes, abstracts and soft floral paintings. Visit nicolecromwellart.com.
Another new-ish gallery comes with an intriguing name—Ruthless Gallery. The gallery, located at the renovated Holman Building, 542 Lighthouse Ave., Pacific Grove, is owned by Ruth Dresser and husband Rick, who is a Monterey native and son of black and white photographer Rod Dresser.
In the 1980s Rick’s father worked with photographer Ansel Adams as his assistant and business manager; he died in 2011, leaving a photography collection to his son—monochrome photographs of landscape, still life and architectural photos.
Ruth Dresser is a jewelry designer and gemologist. The gallery is a multimedia space showcasing original works by over 30 artists from all over the world, from modern, abstract and classical art to pop art. Visit ruthlessgallery.me.
Finally, landscape photographer Jeff Mitchum moved his gallery from Santa Cruz to Monterey. His new place, at 650 Cannery Row, Monterey, is called Seasons of Light Gallery. In addition to his landscape photography, the gallery presents unique furniture and glass artwork from various artists.
Mitchum’s website is temporarily unavailable, but you can visit him @jeffmitchumgalleries on Instagram or contact marketinginfo@canneryrow.com.
