PHOTOS, VIDEO: The cars don't disappoint hundreds of enthusiasts gathered in the evening in Carmel.

While Carmel buzzes with activity during the daytime with permitted events like Concours on the Avenue and the Prancing Ponies Car Show during Car Week, at night it becomes a hub of activity for exotic cars of all types and carspotting enthusiasts.

Thursday night, Aug. 14, saw hundreds of people gathered along Ocean Avenue and side streets to get a glimpse of some glittering exotic cars. 

After observing an increase in dangerous activities like speeding and spinouts in intersections, city officials added temporary blockades along Ocean Avenue last year to calm things down. This year, Acting Police Chief Todd Trayer added more measures, including redirecting traffic through town and keeping tow trucks closer to whisk away impounded vehicles.

Trayer was out walking Ocean Avenue talking to visitors on Thursday night. He says the measures have been working well, adding there were few problems so far up to that point, with some tickets issues and a few vehicles towed. Mostly Trayer says people were having a good time enjoying the autos on display. 

Also on hand during the night were some top social media car influencers on YouTube, Instagram and TikTok, among other platforms. Fans who recognized them stopped and asked for photos.

Both sides of Monte Verde Street were lined with some pricey Aston Martins and Bugattis, including one of the first Bugattis ever made by Ettore Bugatti in the late 1910s.

Later that evening Carmel Police did encounter a couple of incidents, according to Trayer. They arrested a person driving through another part of town near Junipero Street and Camino Del Monte for vehicle code violations who was found to be carrying a concealed manufactured weapon. They also responded to reports of some cars vandalized around midnight near the Pine Inn.
