Marina mayoral hopeful Kevin Saunders arrested for alleged probation violation.

Marina Mayoral hopeful/medical pot activist Kevin Saunders, who last month pleaded no contest to charges he violated restraining orders involving former classmates and staff at the Monterey College of Law, was arrested this afternoon for alleged probation violations.

Saunders was arrested by Monterey County District Attorney investigators at his mother's Seaside home about 4pm, according to his mother, Michelle Saunders. As of 6:15pm, he hadn't been booked into Monterey County Jail.

Assistant District Attorney Stephanie Hulsey confirmed the arrest and says Saunders faces six new counts: two felony counts of making criminal threats; two counts of violating court orders and two counts of making annoying or harassing phone calls. The counts of violating court orders stem from the restraining orders, which various MCL staff and classmates had sought after Saunders was expelled from the school and sent increasingly bombastic and menacing emails. He continued the alleged harassment on the law school's Facebook page. 

Hulsey wasn't sure if the counts of violating court orders would be charged as misdemeanors or felonies. It wasn't immediately clear if Saunders would be arraigned on Thursday.

Saunders declared his candidacy for mayor of the city of Marina last week. In addition to the new charges on the restraining orders, Saunders faces criminal charges of selling pot to undercover police. He also received a lifetime ban from all Starbucks locations following a confrontation he had with a former classmate at the coffee chain's Marina location.

Saunders had been summoned to court this morning on the allegations, but the hearing was put off for a week because the judge hearing the case is on the faculty of Monterey College of Law.
