People living around the Vistra battery storage facility in Moss Landing can return home, more than 24 hours after the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office issued an evacuation order in response to the fire that erupted on Thursday, Jan. 16.
The order was lifted at 6pm Friday, Jan. 17 with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency confirming that the air quality is not a threat to human health.
However, a full closure of Highway 1 remains in effect in Moss Landing. According to Caltrans, the southern end of the closure moves from the junction with Highway 183 to just north of Potrero Road in Moss Landing. The northern end of the closure remains at Struve Road.
Officials continue to advise residents to stay indoors, keep windows and doors closed, limit outdoor exposure and turn off ventilation systems.
