A road resurfacing project near the mouth of Carmel Valley is scheduled to begin June 29.
The project extends roughly 1.5 miles of Carmel Valley Road, from Carmel Rancho Boulevard to Via Petra, and is intended to improve roadway conditions and enhance safety. Construction of the project will take approximately 55 working days, and is anticipated to be completed by the end of October.
Work will generally occur weekdays between the hours of 8:30am to 3:30pm with some night work between 7pm and 5am. Weekend work will occur on an as-needed basis. If weekend work is required, it will take place during the night from 7pm to 5am.
Construction work pauses for the following holiday and events:
Friday, July 3 through Monday, July 6 for the Fourth of July weekend
Wednesday, Aug. 5 through Monday, Aug. 17 for Car Week events.
During these periods, both lanes of Carmel Valley Road will remain open.
Traffic control measures will be in place while crews lay asphalt and install new pavement streaming and markings. One lane will be closed during construction, with traffic managed through one-lane reversible traffic control.
The estimated cost for the project is $5 million funded by Measure X, a voter-approved three-eighths’ of one‑percent (3/8 percent) sales tax measure passed in 2016 to fund transportation projects, and California Senate Bill 1. The construction contract for this project was awarded to Granite Rock Company of Watsonville.
