A new pop-up art show at the Oldemeyer Center showcases the 'Hidden Talent' of Monterey County.

On Friday night, July 24, the City of Seaside opens the doors for Hidden Talent of Monterey County, a new pop-up exhibition spotlighting emerging artists whose work reflects resilience, courage and the transformative power of art.

Running through July 31 at the Oldemeyer Center, the show marks the first public exhibition for a group of artists connected to the Claraty Arts Project, the Seaside Boys & Girls Clubs and independent artists. A public reception takes place Friday, July 24 from 5-7pm. The exhibit will remain on display until the end of July.

Fourteen artists make up the exhibition. From the Claraty Arts Project, there are Cole Rossi, William Bucher and Maricruz Guerrero. Angelique Sanchez-Vallarta, Jenny Flores, Coraline Lobato, Gabriela Perez, Az Guichet, Desiree Owens and Paul Arroyo are representing the Seaside clubhouse of the Boys & Girls Clubs. Independent artists include David Contreras, Garrett Beleu, Serafina Lee and Adriana Rodriguez. 

Many of the artists share experiences with developmental or intellectual disabilities, neurodivergence or mental health challenges. The show was curated by the city's art department staff, whose backgrounds span art therapy, intuitive art practices and a somatic art model exploring the connection between creativity and emotional well-being.

"This exhibition is about more than artwork; it is about people finding their voice," said Victoria Pearl Lee, art coordinator and exhibition curator for the City of Seaside. "These artists remind us that creativity has the power to heal, to inspire, and to connect us in ways words alone cannot."
