Closter Park

Closter Park

Less than two months after its grand reopening with new facilities, the seven-acre Closter Park in East Salinas is experiencing vandalism.

“We've seen some of the typical things we see in other parks, like graffiti, kids riding e-bikes on the baseball field,” says Kristan Lundquist, Salinas’ director of Libraries and Community Services. “We're just looking for the community to help protect that park for us.”

The park recently completed a $10 million renovation, a project that includes new restrooms. Lundquist reports the vandalism includes graffiti in the restrooms. (No significant cost is associated with damages done to the park, she adds.)

Lundquist reminds the public to keep an eye out and help keep the space safe and clean for the community.

“It will be taken care of as soon as possible," says District 2 City Councilmember Tony Barrera, who has championed the renovations at the park.

The graffiti in the restrooms should be removed by the end of the weekend, Barrera says.
