Daniel Dreifuss here. As I reflect on 2024, many stories and photos stand out in my memory. From capturing the defining moments at the AT&T Pro-Am to documenting the incredible journey of the Hericanes rowing across the Pacific, it’s been a year full of remarkable experiences. New events, like the Worlds Away Festival, introduced a fresh sound to Monterey, adding another layer to the area’s vibrant culture.

Covering the people, moments and breaking news of Monterey County is both challenging and exhilarating. As someone who loves food, exploring the evolving restaurant scene has been a privilege, allowing me to showcase the extraordinary work of talented chefs across Monterey County.

One unforgettable moment was witnessing the effort to save a stranded baby orca in Carmel, where a dedicated team of locals and professionals worked tirelessly. Another powerful experience was spending time with Changiz Lahidji and Steve McCullough, veterans supporting fellow veterans. Their work highlights the enduring cost of war and the resilience of those who’ve served.

Looking back on 2024, I am grateful to have met and shared the stories of a phenomenal community—one that continues to show its love and support for the Monterey County Weekly.
