People who were forced to evacuate due to the Vistra battery plant fire in Moss Landing can now apply for $750 gift cards to help with expenses.
About 1,200 people in Moss Landing, and parts of Castroville and Elkhorn, were under evacuation orders for a day following the fire that erupted on Jan. 16, which remained smoldering for more than a week.
Working with the Community Foundation for Monterey County, Vistra donated more than $450,000 to establish the Moss Landing Fire Relief Fund.
To receive the $750 Visa gift card, the resident representing the household must be 18 years of age or older and show proof of physical residence in mandatory evacuation zones, which can be found on the Monterey County emergency information site.
Eligible residents are asked to complete a request form at bit.ly/MossLandingFireRelief. The form can also be completed at two in-person events: 1-8pm Saturday, Feb. 1 at the Castro Plaza Family Resource Center, 10601 McDougall St., Castroville; or 2-6pm Monday, Feb. 3 at the Moss Landing Harbor District Office, 7881 Sandholdt Road, Moss Landing.
For information, visit cfmco.org/MossLandingFireRelief.
A separate program for businesses impacted by the fire will soon be announced, according to Vistra.
