Mountain Lion Pacific Grove

A mountain lion was resting under the trees at a house at the corner of Ocean View Boulevard and 11th Street in Pacific Grove on Wednesday, Oct. 2, 2024. P.G. Police blocked off the street between Ocean View and Garden Lane.

On a hot day it's only natural to want to head to the beach to cool off. That's apparently as true for mountain lions as it is for humans. One mountain lion made its way through Pacific Grove on Wednesday, Oct. 2 to the corner of 11th Street and Ocean View Boulevard, to rest under some trees just a stone's throw from the bluffs of Monterey Bay.

Acting Police Chief Brian Anderson told the P.G. City Council on Wednesday night that someone earlier in the day reported seeing a mountain lion in the 400 block of Lighthouse Avenue at 11th Street.

"Our officers responded and they did spot the mountain lion resting peacefully in the side yard at 11th and Ocean View," Anderson said. The house where the lion chose to nap through the hot afternoon is directly across from Berwick Park. The Rec Trail lies just beyond the park as it hugs the bluffs overlooking the bay.

They immediately called California Fish and Wildlife officials who told police that the best course of action was to let the lion rest in the shade until the evening hours. They said the lion would more than likely leave and go back to where it normally lives.

Police closed off one block of 11th Street between Ocean View and Garden Lane. An officer with Fish and Wildlife remained stationed there to keep an eye on the lion.

In the meantime, Anderson said they were advising the public to not walk their dogs in the area, so as not to cause an issue between animals.

UPDATE: P.G. Police announced Thursday morning that the mountain lion had moved on over night.

Pam Marino...Don't you supposedly live in Pacific Grove?

I am amazed you still do not seem to know that Ocean View Blvd.(Boulevard) is just that, in Pacific Grove? Absolutely Not: Ocean View Avenue!
