The Timber Fire has grown to nearly 16,000 acres and is 26 percent contained, as of 3pm on Tuesday, Aug. 25, an increase of 3,382 acres in the last 24 hours. A total of 661 structures are currently threatened and the cause of the fire, which began on Aug. 8, remains under investigation.
Although fire activity remained relatively quiet last night, according to incident command, fire crews were told to prepare for critical fire weather today as conditions approach Red Flag Warning criteria, with humidity expected to drop at higher elevations.
The National Weather Service issues a Red Flag Warning in coordination with land management agencies to alert land managers and the public to a critical fire weather pattern that is either underway or expected very soon. The warning signals that dangerous fire conditions are imminent or already occurring, and indicates a wildfire is likely to become difficult to control.
