As the lights start to turn on in Monterey County, thousands of customers in Pebble Beach and Pacific Grove are entering their third day without electricity after heavy wind and rain knocked out power lines Sunday, Feb. 4.
According to Pacific Gas and Electric, more than 5,330 customers are affected throughout Pebble Beach and parts of Pacific Grove north of Lighthouse Avenue and around Highway 68.
During the afternoon of Monday, Feb. 5, PG&E reported 30,130 customers without power across Monterey County. That number has dipped to just over 11,000 as of the morning of Tuesday, Feb. 6.
A boil water notice was issued for the Garrapata Water System on Tuesday, Feb. 6 due to a fallen tree damaging a water main, according to County of Monterey officials. Residents served by the system are advised to only use boiled tap water or bottled water for drinking and cooking purposes as a safety precaution to avoid stomach or intestinal illness.
A preliminary boil water notice was issued for the Carmel Riviera Mutual Water Company due to a main break. Residents are advised to boil water for three to five minutes before using it for drinking or cooking.
Those impacted by the power outages are encouraged to visit the various resource centers now open. The centers offer wi-fi, charging stations for devices, water, snacks and limited refrigeration for medications only. More locations opened Tuesday, Feb. 6.
