The third time will hopefully be the charm for Pacific Grove, which has been striving to achieve a state-certified housing plan since it missed a deadline in December 2023. On Monday, June 23, the city released its third draft of its eight-year plan, known as a housing element, for a one-week public review.
The most recent revisions were made after the city received feedback from the California Department of Housing and Community Development on a second draft, submitted on May 21, according to the city's announcement.
Revisions include changes to programs designed to encourage building of and access to affordable housing, as well as a greater diversity of housing in some neighborhoods.
Also mentioned in the draft is developing a home-sharing program, creating standards for adding housing to church properties and assisting interested churches in building housing. It also suggests expanding residential uses in the downtown area and participating in a housing trust fund.
The draft is available to view online.
The deadline for public comment is 5pm, Monday, June 30. Submit comments to housing@cityofpacificgrove.org.
