Norife Herrera Jones, whose estranged husband has been charged in connection with her murder, was shot before her body was dismembered and dumped, according to a press release by the Monterey Police Department.
The late-ex-wife of Naval Postgraduate School Prof. Lawrence Jones died from gunshot wounds and then her body was dismembered, according to a press release by Monterey Police Department.
On September 7, Jones’ remains were found on the side of a road in San Benito County. Six days later, Monterey Police took over the investigation after evidence suggested she was murdered at Jones’ home on Spray Avenue in Monterey. He was arrested in Los Angeles County on September 14, transferred to Monterey County Jail and charged with one count of murder.
Jones, 69, was supposed to be arraigned Wednesday, but defense attorney Richard Rosen, representing Jones during a special appearance, says the arraignment will be held until Thursday, September 27 so Mr. Jones can be medically assessed.
Rosen declined to comment on Mr. Jones’ emotional state. The Sheriff’s Department also refused to comment on Jones’ need for a medical assessment; Jones appeared in court with his right hand and wrist wrapped in bandages, indicating an injury.
