The Blue Angels are parked at Salinas Municipal Airport, but they may not stick around for the weekend’s California International Airshow.
The government shutdown has put military participation in the event in limbo. On Wednesday morning, Oct. 1, the airshow’s committee met with the Blue Angels and were informed that the squadron currently has permission to remain until Thursday, with the airshow set to begin on Saturday.
In a statement, the airshow committee noted that if Congress agrees on a federal budget by midnight on Wednesday, the Blue Angels and other military aircraft will take part as planned.
The shutdown affects the U.S. Air Force F-16 Viper team, as well as display aircraft.
Organizers of the airshow made it clear on Wednesday that the event will continue with all civilian aerobatic performers on schedule, including the Smoke n Thunder Jet Truck and other non-military ground acts.

Trump has been a perfect President. I'm sure the Democrats are to blame for the shutdown. They care too much about ordinary people. As for the Blue Angels (Democrat supporters?), it serves them right. And, at least Salinas might be a bit more quiet this weekend. ;)
You can blame Schumer, Jeffries and their cronies for this. They won't own up to the truth. Too bad.
It's political brinksmanship. Republicans are in control, yet refuse to compromise - at the expense of affordable healthcare for millions. The shutdown grounded the Blue Angels and stalled healthcare - a perfect snapshot of broken priorities. Each hour the jets fly burns 9,100 gallons of fuel and spews 96 tons of CO₂ into an overheated planet. Our tax dollars should fund healthcare and climate solutions, not pollution and militarism.
