A Florida-based golf course company has acquired The Club at Pasadera for $9.75 million from a group of local investors, according to Monterey County property transaction records.
The acquisition marks Concert Golf Partners' entrance into the California market with its 33rd club, "and represents another significant step forward in its mission to preserve and enhance premier private country clubs across the United States," according to a press release issued on Jan. 3. (The acquisition was recorded on Dec. 18.)
The company reports the former ownership group tapped them after a third-party management company was unable to resolve long-term governance issues.
“The Club at Pasadera is a special place to me and to all of the other partners who personally invested to acquire the club in 2018, and invested in its many improvements,” said Rohit Khanna, chairman of the managing committee. “We are very proud of the progress that we have made over the past five years and are confident that Concert Golf is the right successor."
The 6,673-yard, par-71 course was designed by Jack Nicklaus. It offers views of the bay from its location off Highway 68, nestled in the hills next to Laguna Seca Recreation Area and Fort Ord National Monument.
The Club is the main attraction in the 250-home, 556-acre gated community. (Residents are not required to be members of The Club, but according to the HOA, most are.)
Besides the golf course, the Club offers a gym, 25-meter pool, tennis courts, restaurant and elegant courtyard that hosts many special events.
Pasadera opened in 2000. In 2009, Pasadera Country Club LLC filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy; the golf course was then acquired in 2010 by the Chinese company HNA for $7.5 million, according to news reports at the time, and rebranded in 2013 as Nicklaus Club-Monterey. In 2018, HNA sold it to local investors for $3.2 million. That group then renamed it The Club at Pasadera.
“We’re thrilled to welcome The Club at Pasadera, a perfectly crafted golf course and premier club located in one of golf’s elite global destinations, into the Concert Golf family,” Concert Golf Senior Vice President Jordan Peace said in a statement.
