A San Francisco appeals court has lifted its freeze on same-sex marriages, and all counties will begin issuing marriage licenses, according to the Office of the Governor.
The 9th Circuit Court of Appeals lifted the ban Friday, two days after the Supreme Court undercut Proposition 8, the 2008 voter initiative that amended the state constitution to define marriage as between a man and a woman.
The Department of Public Health has advised county officials that same-sex marriage is now legal in California, and marriage licenses must be made available immediately.
Monterey County Assessor Steve Vagnini says the county has received the governor's notice, and will issue licenses to same-sex couples.
The Supreme Court ruling found Prop. 8 supporters didn’t have the legal standing to defend the law in federal court. Shortly after Wednesday's decision Gov. Jerry Brown ordered Public Health to notify California counties to start issuing gay marriage licenses as soon as the lower court freeze is lifted.
According to the Sacramento Bee, the appeals court was going to wait at least 25 days before enforcing the Supreme Court's decision, but has moved forward much faster than originally announced.
Proponents of Prop. 8 are calling the lift "outrageous."
A statement on the website ProtectMarriage.com says: "This outrageous act tops off a chronic pattern of lawlessness, throughout this case, by judges and politicians hell-bent on thwarting the vote of the people to redefine marriage by any means, even outright corruption... It remains to be seen whether the fight can go on, but either way, it is a disgraceful day for California.”

Step one is now complete! Sad! Step #2 will be the injection of protection laws. We who know that gay marriage & all sexual perversion is wickedness will soon have to face the ugly reality of
debased laws. Teaching our children that sexual perversion is wrong will be a crime that comes with jail time. Scary!
