While the original P.G. location has the ambiance of a high school cafeteria, the food at Michael’s Grill & Taqueria is at the top of its class with a menu that puts delicious substance ahead of its sassy, no-frills style. Burritos here come wet, big and tasty, with the tomatillo-sauce-smothered House Burrito a sure winner. Tacos, meanwhile, arrive piled with lettuce and cheese and your choice of meat, which is where the “grill” in the taqueria’s name comes into play. Carne asada, chicken and shrimp come off the grill so succulent that Michael’s meat has developed somewhat of a cult following. The blackened chicken is a trusty fan favorite, but the real ticket at Michael’s is the perfectly seasoned grilled shrimp. Order some on a taco salad, pop open a Victoria beer and get ready for a treat.
