Update: Jacob Vargas was recovered inside the vehicle after it was abandoned in a barn on River Road just south of Salinas. Vargas was found safe and is in the process of being reunited with his mother. There is no suspect information at this time.
A California Amber Alert was issued Thursday morning after 2-year-old Jacob Vargas was abducted from Soledad by an unknown suspect. The suspect carjacked a black Honda Accord, when Vargas was inside.
The Amber Alert was issued just before 9:30am Thursday by the Soledad Police Department. Vargas’s abduction was reported to police about 6:45am.
Vargas is Latino and is described as having brown hair, brown eyes and wearing a beige beanie, a blue sweater, a white shirt with a yellow stripe and grey sleeves, and blue jeans.
A suspect description was not released.
The suspect’s vehicle was has California license plate #7LIE244. It has tinted windows and damage to the left rear bumper.
Anyone who has seen this vehicle or Vargas is urged to contact the Soledad Police Department at 755-5111 or call 911.
