Squid Speaks

Something in the Air…When reading the news, sometimes Squid can’t help but sniff something fishy—and more often than not the stench is not coming from Squid (cuttlefish-scented bodyspray has become Squid’s go-to scent for nights out on the town). But last week, when King City’s City Manager Michael Powers announced the troubled little town’s brand-new police chief was axed after just three short months, Squid was overwhelmed when Squid took a whiff.

Much to the disappointment of Squid’s therapist, Squid never tires of conspiracy theories. So Squid ventured down to King City to do some digging and Squid found dozens of residents asking for Powers’ resignation, and former Police Chief Ron Forgue not knowing how to answer when asked what happened.

“I fought with the alligators and this is what happens?” Forgue mused to one of Squid’s colleagues. "I don’t know why, I don’t know what is going on and I just wanted to let you guys know I was not going to resign…All I wanted was to put the city back on the map as a legitimate city.”

But Squid suspects Powers had a beef with Forgue. Squid is told Powers wanted the chief physically out of the police station—and his heavy South Side Chicago accent off of King City airways—immediately. Squid is told Powers last week sent Acting Police Chief Alex Tirado to KRKC, King City’s tiny radio station, to remove Forgue’s voice from pre-recorded commercials aimed to recruit more police officers.

It is Squid’s humble opinion that hiring a replacement for Forgue should have been the priority, but then again Squid is not a Salinas Valley politician. Hopefully, the commercial gets a new voiceover pronto, because Squid does not have enough tentacles to count how many cops have been arrested and fired at the police department in the last two years.
