Good neighbors talk to each other and work out solutions (“Potter’s office seeks long-term solution to Big Sur’s short-term rental problem,” May 30-June 6). And that’s what BigSurBED.com members want. BSBED members care about their community and their neighbors. Vacation rentals in homes have existed worldwide for decades and provide a quiet place for families to spend quality time with each other.
We believe that everyone can co-exist peacefully and are dedicated to that. All rental issues can be solved with partnership and open communications, which the county has most recently initiated.
We want to listen to your concerns. Just go to our “good neighbors” page on our website and if you have any complaints or suggestions use our form to get us working on a solution. - BigSurBed | via Web
In response to the article on short-term rentals, we wish you had mentioned that we who are renting our cottages have established a “best practices” protocol outlining all the things we expect our members to do in order to be good neighbors. In addition, we have created a document that members will give their guests explaining the fragile nature of the Big Sur community, the importance of driving slowly on mountain roads and other considerations.
You mentioned “silver headed ladies” weeping. If you were faced with the possibility of losing the home that you love and losing the thing that makes it possible for you to stay there, perhaps you would weep as well. - Linda Sayre | via Web
