A reader wants to know what happened to hopes of a Salinas minor league baseball team making its home at the old Hayward Lumber site on Front Street. Property negotiations ended after eight months. “This is a very disappointing conclusion,” Bakersfield Blaze team owner D.G. Elmore said then. But there’s good news: The Blaze is in talks to purchase another location, home of the old Uni-kool Co. plant at John and Abbott streets, to host a field and a 3,500-seat stadium.
